Maban, November 5, 2025. The Community Engagement Network (CEN) took part in a multi-agency coordination meeting at Genderassa Camp on Wednesday, October 29, as part of its ongoing humanitarian mission to provide accurate and timely information to refugees and host communities in Maban.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including camp leadership, local administrations, the UNHCR, the Commission for Refugee Affairs (CRA), and various humanitarian partners to review ongoing initiatives and discuss current challenges.
During the session, recorded and later aired on CEN’s Radio Salam, Magok Dengali, UNHCR Assistant Field Officer, presented the Maban County Strategy, a three-year roadmap designed to support both refugee and host populations.
“This strategy is about building bridges between people, services, and opportunities,” Dengali explained.
He underscored the importance of community participation in documenting local needs and aspirations to enhance self-reliance. The strategy focuses on peaceful coexistence, capacity building, infrastructure development, agricultural land use, and skills training.
From the community side, Enas Ahmed, a refugee living in Genderassa Camp, expressed concern about healthcare access.
“We need the health center to remain open during holidays, patients can’t wait for treatment,” she urged, citing service gaps during off-hours.
Ehsan Hamdun, Deputy Camp Supervisor, echoed her concerns.
“We need a qualified doctor, a midwife, and a steady supply of medicine. Our people deserve better care,” he said, emphasizing the strain on the camp’s health system.
In response, Abe John, UNHCR Senior Nutrition Associate, acknowledged the challenges.
“The reality is that Gantiel Hospital serves all camps, and we face staffing and funding constraints,” he noted, adding that medicine availability depends largely on donor and government support.
Through its ongoing radio programming and community engagement, CEN continues to elevate local voices and advocate for sustainable, inclusive solutions that strengthen both refugee and host communities across Maban.
